Denis has been a member of the Section Executive since June 1999. He was elected as Treasurer in March 2000.
Denis has been a solicitor in practice in Canberra since 1975. He was originally employed by the Australian Legal Aid Office which became the ACT Legal Aid Commission in 1977. For some years he was the head of the Family Law Section of the ACT Legal Aid Commission. In 1982 he went into private practice and worked as an employee for a few years, and in 1985 he entered a partnership and has been in partnership in a number of firms since then.
Denis has been Chairman of the Legal Aid Committee of the ACT Law Society, the Family Law Committee of the ACT Law Society, and the Law Council of Australia's Legal Aid Committee, and for several years was President of Relationships Australia (Canberra and Region). He is also a past President of the ACT Law Society. In May 2004, Denis was appointed as the President of the ACT Legal Aid Commission. He is a member of the Law Council's Access to Justice Committee and the ACT Legal Practitioners' Admission Board.
Denis is a partner in the firm Farrar Gesini & Dunn which specialises in family law.
