Annual Pacifica Congress Conference 2023

"Across the Pacific Family Matters"

We are excited to invite you to our 2023 conference, which will be held on 31 August in Hobart and marks 10 years since we first started gathering.

This is an annual event and aims to stimulate and push our thinking so we, family law professionals from the Pacific region, are challenged to focus on better meeting the needs of the children and families we serve in the family court process.

Friday 17th March 2023
AIFLAM Psychology of Conflict and Dispute Resolution

A single day program presented by expert trainers from the UWA Mediation Clinic. Over the course of the day, participants will be introduced to recent understandings about the psychology of conflict and dispute resolution, including:

The procedural justice effect
Building trust
Using mentalizing interventions
Assisting parties to make decisions, agreements and settlements that have ‘stickability’.

Friday 24th and Saturday 25th March 2023
NMAS Mediation Refresher and Assessment Days

Day one will provide a review and refresher of contemporary approaches to facilitative mediation, and may be undertaken as a stand-alone day, for CPD purposes. Day two will comprise coaching and assessment for those NMAS accredited mediators seeking to renew or re-accredit. For full details and to register, click here.

AIFLAM Arbitration Training Course

A face to face course, to be presented at the beautiful Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Gold Coast.

The course is designed for those seeking to be listed as Family Law Arbitrators pursuant to Regulation 67B of the Family Law Regulations. It is also designed to assist those family law practitioners with the concept of arbitration generally, enabling them to confidently commit to the arbitration process as an option for dispute resolution. Sunday 7th to Friday 12th May 2023
AIFLAM NMAS Mediation Course

A face to face course, to be presented at the beautiful Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Gold Coast. Starting with welcome drinks on Sunday 7th May, the course will run for 5 full days from Monday to Friday. An assessment day will be held online on Saturday 27th May.

Over the course of the program, participants will:

become familiar with the AIFLAM model of facilitative mediation
engage in role-plays both as a mediator and as a party to experience fully the dynamics of mediation
develop skills in facilitating negotiation and problem-solving between the parties
develop proficiency in managing a mediation process and, at the end of the course, should be able to mediate disputes competently (please note if you wish to mediate disputes involving children and issue s60I certificates, this requires additional Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP) training)
develop a capacity to critically reflect on their own practice of mediation, and
develop a capacity to critically reflect on which mediator interventions work and when.
